Wolverine Origins #14

Cyber interrupts the tussle between Wolverine and his long lost son Daken. With Wolverine KOed its now Cyber Vs Daken. This is quite a straighforward issue with lots of fight action, maiming and clawing. Daken is good and fast but Cyber has the advantage of adamantium laced body and nothing can touch him. Even the few acrobatic stunts Daken inflict on Cyber produce nothing. It was a matter of time before Cyber got Daken by the throat only for Wolverine to thwart Cyber's attempt. While Cyber and Wolverine is tussling, Daken makes an escape leaving the scene.
Wolverine then took a heavy beating by Cyber. Wolverine is saved by the bell when Cyber gets a heart attack. Seems Cyber does not know the new host body he possesed have a heart weakness.
Wolverine interrogates Cyber and theres the flashback of the origins of Cyber from the early 1900's where he was a homicidal officer convicted of mass murder.
But he was broke out from going to prison by non other than Sabretooth to be recruited by unknown agency. Weapon X maybe.
As Cyber slowly loosing it from the heart ailment, Wolverine decided to help Cyber to locate a tinkerer to repair that heart of Cyber.

Notable events: The origins of Cyber before he was the way he is.
Best action: Wolverine getting both his hands broken by Cyber.
Twist: Wolverine helps out Cyber? The man he most feared.

Amazing Spiderman #540

After the events in the previous issue where Aunt May got shot, Peter has revenge on his mind. So it is evident that in this issue Spiderman goes looking for the people responsible for the shooting. Spidey goes tracking the criminals to get the answers and Spidey does take some drastic steps to get the information he needs. It is not long before Spiderman ends up with the name of the shooter.

Spidey managed to get the location of his home but not before the shooter has left for the train station.
Spiderman uses his spider sense at the train station to get the shooter as he doesn't know how the guy looks like. Spiderman then give the shooter a hard lesson as spidey tries to extract the information of the man that ordered the hit. But the shooter got hit himself by unidentified assailants before revealing the identity. But not before Spidey planted a spider tracer on the assailant. In the end Spidey manage to track down the assailant as he was answering the phone. As Spidey listens to the voice, it is obvious already that the man that ordered the hit is the Kingpin.

Notable events: Spidey going crazy in investigating the identity of the shooter
Best action: Spiderman dangling a guns smuggler to get information.
Twist: Spiderman learns that Kingpin is after his head.
Cliffhanger: Spiderman wants to kill Kingpin in next issue

Incredible Hulk #106

World War Hulk and this issue is suppose to be the starting point. But as nice as the cover can be, the hulk won't be making any real appearance here apart from when he appears during storytelling by other characters. So this issue is mostly centered on Jen Walters the She Hulk and this genius Amadeus who is all out in trying to help Hulk. Apparently Jen has learnt what Ironman and the rest of the Illuminati done to Hulk by banishing him from earth. After giving Ironman a beating, Ironman puts some nano bots into Jen that makes her unable to turn into She Hulk and dropped her off in the middle of nowhere.

Then Amadeus appear and offered her a lift. The rest of it will involve how Amadeus persuades Jen to join in his cause to aid the Hulk. Meanwhile in the background is Reed Richards monitoring everything they are doing and working with Doc Samson to get to the genius. Soon Doc Samson manage to track them and after felling both of them with a thunder clap, Jen emerges as She Hulk and gives doc a whack after learning what Doc Samson has been collaborating with Reed and Ironman. It ended up She Hulk puching Doc out of the place. Amadeus gives She Hulk the slip and in the final pages meeting up with non other than Hercules and Angel both have a history with the Hulk.

Notable events: Good to know how Amadeus meet with Hulk previously. Also a good recap of how Hulk helped Jen to hospital before she was She Hulk.
Best action: She Hulk pummeling Doc Samson way far away.
Twist: Doc Samson is with Reed's side.
Cliffhanger: Is Hercules and Angel joining with Amadeus agenda.

DMZ #18

A new storyline starts in this issue titled friendly fire. This time Matt is out of the DMZ to cover the Day 204 Massacre in the ongoing war. Most of the storyline involves the journey of a Private Stevens who is being interviewved by Matt. As it is, Stevens was plunged into the war nobody wants to fight. At the beginning the story kind of slow but gradually builds up until the day of the massacre event.

Honestly i didn't expect it to happen so sudden. As private Stevens explains it, on the day of the event, it was raining heavily and a bunch of him and other guys was seeking shelter. Then out of nowhere hundreds of people in raincoat came marching by them ignoring them as if they weren't there. It is not clear now whether they were the opposing force or not. As the group march further up, Stevens started imagining things like blood on the streming through the ground. Stevens got up and ran towards the group and stopped one of them and as he reached for something in his jacket pocket, Stevens freaked and shouted he has a weapon and starts firing. So that is how the basic of how the massacre happened and the group that was killed was supposed to be anti war protestors. And the soldiers misfiring on the civillians are to stand trial which should be in the next issue.

Best action: The faces on the soldiers as they were overwhelmed by the number of the unknown group not knowing which side they are on.
Best twist: The way the massacre actually happened.

Astonishing X-Men #21

The X-Men crash landed in the alien planet Breakworld. In this issue the X-Men team got separated but soon after Wolverine and the mutant girl Armor rejoins the others namely Cyclops, Ms Frost, Beast and the SWORD director Agent Brand. There's a great scene where Wolverine rides a nice flying machine here. Soon after they split up again to search for the alien device that is going to destroy earth and also to search for Colossus and Kitty.

Meanwhile Colossus and Kitty both have problems of their own when the aliens security forces discovered them and they have to fight their way out. Until an alien native rescued them and bring them to a fortress in the mountains. The leader of the alien world Kruun is plotting how to destroy the X-Men and he has a new robot like assasin.
This alien robot assasin will later appear in the final pages as it ambushed the space ship Cyclops and Emma was travelling on. And the alien robot has a definitive hidden talent for retracting its body parts. But the real question is whether Cyclops is dead or just injured after crashing the ship again.

Notable scene: The SWORD agents have a mole inside the Breakworld empire.
Best action scene: The alien robot portruding arms and body in halting the ship Cyclops and Frost were in.
Best twist: Having compassion is a sin in Breakworld!
Cliffhanger: Frost asks the alien robot to kill her also. Not that easy.

Punisher #47

Not much action happening in this issue. Hard to believe Punisher getting injured and have to rest after being rescued by a woman. So the mysterious woman rescuer reveals everything in this issue, in how she arrived in this situation and helping Punisher. The woman is one of the wives of some big mobster. Mobster guy is total crazy and abuses the wife straight after wedding. The wife becomes vengeful to the other wives of the mobsters as they all knew the craziness of her husband before. That includes the woman's own sister planning her marriage into the insane mob family.

Then one fine day the crazy mob husband is killed by the Punisher in his usual gang buster action. Thats the only action Punisher ever gets in this issue. Soon after the woman found herself with terminal disease and wanting to go to FBI to unfold the mob's activities. So she is marked for death as her sister and the other mob's wife planned for her death. But she survived after a freak accident prevented the hired killers to do their job properly. So now her life's goal is to seek revenge on those who had wronged her previously, a kindred spirit with Punisher.

Notable events: Explaination on how the woman become a super crazy killer
Best action: Unfortunately Punisher only holds a gun once here. Not much choice there.
Best twist: Punisher actually listens to whole story of this woman and feels understanding? huh
Nope no cliffhanger here.

Ghost Rider: Trail of Tears #4

The trail of doom continues for the few men being hunted by Ghost Rider. The men are getting anxious as they have just witnessed a harrowing death of one of their own in the hands of this hooded rider. As they started to get confuse and angry, the rider creeps up from behind them and thus starting another killing spree. One man got caught by chain got tear apart. Lots of dimemberment here.

Ghost rider releases flames from his eyes again and surrounded the two last man standing, Reagen and Nightshade in a circle of fire. A shocker here as Reagen took an outrageous action in order to make a deal with the other side. Not long after the dust settles, red fog are heading to a town not far away. Along with it a few shadowy figures with definite evil intention. Looks like the bad guys made the deal and came back.

Best action: Hooded ghost rider flinging a victim into the air with chain.
Best twist: Reagen tears out a dead friend's heart and eats it in order to make the deal with the other side... then kills himself.
Cliffhanger: The return of the bad guys from the grave with a vengeance.

Ironman #17

From the cover supposedly Ironman will face off with Mandarin in this issue. But not yet in this issue. The story is still grappling with the issue with terrorism that happen a few issues back and still figuring out who the mastermind are. Besides that Tony is still being buggedby the controversy surrounding his Stark industries rescuing inventor of the Extremis virus, Maya from life imprisonment for her participation in the Extremis story arc last year.

Anyway the action didn't start until the SHIELD and Tony decided to raid the supposedly target where Najeeb the suspected terrorist was last spotted which is in China. The place, a high security mental asylum where Mandarin resides for the longest time and Ironman and gang don't know about it yet. So they get ambushed by some hibrid human/machines. Before that they found the dead body of Najeeb that got shot from previous issue. Things gets interesting when the dead bodies organs starts to do something weird in autopsy.

Notable events in issue: Mandarin is freed and reclaiming his rings. Ahh those precious.
Best action: Ironman and gang gets trapped my goons of Mandarin.
Cliffhanger: Floating intestines?

Daredevil #96

Daredevil still on the case of this prisoner inmate Gladiator which apparently has power. From last issue Gladiator flipped of and whacked some prison guards. Now Matt and Foggy tries to get some kind of deal for Gladiator mentioning he deserves some psychiatric evaluation.
But the evaluation also does not help the Gladiator guy as it is determined he is aware of his own actions.

The action doesn't come until late in the issue where the Gladiator is being transported to another prison. A bunch of hired thugs tried to break the Gladiator out from the prison truck. Daredevil was there to thwart the crime but explosion to break the door knocks him out.
Soon after Gladiator is free, be goes crazy again and starts killing the people that freed him. Also gives Daredevil a punch in the stomach. Meanwhile an old acquaintance Matt met during his stint in France returns to seek out his help. Daredevil should have a rematch with Gladiator next issue.

Hellblazer #231

Part 2 of the story starts of where Constantine is tied up and at the gun point of this Webb guy who intent is killing him. But Constantine is saved as the spirits of the people murdered turned up and confronted Webb including the kid Constantine suppose to save. Webb kills himself and Constantine managed to free himself of the chains albeit in a difficult manner.

Constantine having made a deal with a mob bos that he have to help his dead daughter, Karen through to the after life. In return the mob boss will grant Constantine any wish he wants. So in the end Constantine decided to help Karen by conjuring up some spells. But as it turns out , its the hell path open instead and Karen is sucked into it. As Constantine rationalise its either going up to heaven or going down to hell. Karen being pissed off curses Constantine till the portal closes.The other dead spirits that witness this laments Constantine cold heartedness as he walks away satisfied

Mighty Avengers #2

Since from the previous issue, as the newly assembled try to thwart the Mole Man's plan, Ironman is suddenly transformed to a hot naked woman. Kind off hard to digest. What is behind this sudden transformation is still unclear. Now the new avengers are led by Ms Marvel after the fall of Ironman.

In subsequent action the avengers assumed that Ironman is dead and have been taken over by this naked woman of a being. haha. Ares going berserk a couple a times as he tries to kill the naked woman but it seems the being also retained some if not all of Ironman's capabilities. In one scene Ares tried to hit the woman head on but end up hitting the protective shield around her and getting eletrocuted. Not only that, it seems that the woman also can command the lightning at will as Thor has.

Of course the Mole Man is quickly dispatched not by the avengers but by the nude woman. As all the minions of the Mole Man melted under the weather conjured by the nude woman.
Bendis's writings never seems to bore. Now with this shocking of a story more interesting are yet to unfolds.

Wolverine #53

Wolverine is having those weird dreams again, this time in ancient Rome where gladiators fight it out in the Coliseum. This time the dreams involve white tigers and a gladiator battle it out. There are a few figures that is not shown the face. Still blurry there.

Theres also Wolverine vs Sabretooth part 2 picking where it left off last issue. Only this time , Sabretooth is chained and locked up after being subdued previously. They are still in Wakanda, home of the Black Panther.

Things got weirder as Wolverine is attacked when checking out on Sabretooth later in the night.
Turns out the attacker is none other than Wild Child an ex member from Alpha Flight. Not only that , he also helped Sabretooth escape once again. Think this is the 3rd time Sabretooth escapes in this story arc. Almost confused Wild Child with Sabretooth as both almost looked the same there.

Anyway things turns beginning more interesting as the other members of animal gang ie Wolfsbane , Sasquatch and etc also comes looking for wild child. Wonder where this is going now.

Conan and the midnight God #3

Conan and his men is now stuck in Stygia, facing a horde of lizard like monsters in the first few pages. And Conan is loosing men as fast as the rain falls there. With the help of a boy , Conan understands that the lizards are going after the spirits of the dead people for gathering. Seems like Conan is facing very powerful sorcerer here continuing his quest for revenge deep into Stygia.

As Conan pressed deeper into Stygia with the help of the boy , it is discovered that most living beings are dead. The next notable action appears towards the end as an old hag called on to them in an abandoned city. Conan knowing that it was a trap obliged and entered her domain.

After explaining the sorcery behind the lizards and that what they are doing with the souls the old witch casts a spell and Conan is forced to deal with a captured lizard woman. Well as always Conan managed to overcome the foe and gained a useful guide to take them to the sorcerer's hideout.

Conan #39

The adventures starts and ends in this one issue. Short and simple with lots of action. One of the adventures of Conan with the wizard Kalanthes, here they ended up in a village where people are dying from a disease. Since the cure can't arrive on time to save the villagers, the only other way is to get the cure from a tree in this haunted tower. So Conan assaulted the tower facing some undead zombies as usual.
Not knowing also an old acquaintace is also after the same tree.

Plenty of action not only of chopping and maiming zombies, but also have faced some talking statues that spits out bats from its mouth. Conan always have his way of handling these kinds of beings this time plugging the source of the leakage in the statue's mouth.
Of course by the time Conan reached the tree, everything thats in his path is dead. Also Conan saved all the villagers also. On to next adventure.

Ironman #16

Starts off with scene where Tony extracts info from the surviving terrorist that hijacks a ship. Here he is still trying to piece out why all the multiple random terrorists acts keeps cropping up. And well funded at that.

Also he's still trying to track down the Najeeb guy since from last issue where the guy disappears in China. Whats in China? Well there is a long forgotten powerful villain imprisoned in a jail cell there and this Najeeb dude is trying real hard to get to him. In this issue its finally revealed who the villain really is, an old enemy of Ironman minus the green skin but is still deadly as demonstrated by him in decapatitating a few of the goons thats trying to break him out. Ironman running out of badguys already...

Ghost Rider #10

Ghost Rider continues to hunt down the devil in disguise. The story arc continues as Ghost Rider continues his trip since from issue 1. This time its in Sleepy Hollows itself. The devil is now possessing the body of Jack o Lantern and we get to see his head gets blown to bits and pieces on the 1st page itself. Then theres the flashback of how it arrived there.

The sheriff of the town not knowing whats going on with all the murders and weird things finally gets an explanation from Ghost Rider. Turns out the sheriff does believe at Ghost's explanation about how he break out of hell and the devil also gets released into hundreds of pieces and he have to undo what is done.

Next the duo sets a trap to get to the possesed Jack O Lantern. But not before raising a bunch of zombie undeads to follow. Next issue will see Ghost Rider squaring off with the devil in Jack O lantern.
